There are soooo many options for gyms nowadays, that is pretty challenging to find one that fits your needs. You have to compare price, facility, location, personal training options and the newbie "social appeal". I've joined pretty much every gym out there and have narrowed my favs down to a few. Time to get to the nitty gritty on what all the gyms have to offer... Where the heck to go???1. Planet Fitness - predomintaly on the east, Planet Fitness (PF) is the economic choice for those who simply want to say they have a gym membership. In my guest visit, I was satisfied. PF does the trick for the perk of being able to workout outside of your home. With a low monthly rate of $10/month or $19/month it really doesn't get any lower in cost. However, what PF lacked for me was adequate equipment and up-to-date equipment for use. In short, "you get what you pay for" but for those who may not work out often and simply need a stability of having a gym, PF is the way to go. Oh, and for the ladies, most of their locations offer tanning so it's a efficient way to get your tan on with subsidized pricing lol. 2. New York Sports Club (NYSC) - the name speaks for itself; NYSC is a based in the tri-state area and has over 100 locations in NY, NJ, CT. This gym has pretty much everything you need. However, it has the exclusiveness of the New York brand behind it. The facilities are great and the equipment is suitable. One thing to remember about NYSC is the true benefit comes from committing to a term membership. This lowers your cost by half!!! considering month-to-month membership is $80 bucks and a one year commitment is $40. NYSC also has great classes of all variety which I love. If you have no plans of leaving the tai-state area, this may be a fit for you for the convenience. Lastly, there are also clubs in Boston, Philadelphia an DMV Area with the same options :) 3. Blink - this is a truly New York based gym that is quickly becoming the go-to spot. Since it's relatively new, it still has the fresh appeal. I currently have a membership at Blink to visit any location . With only a $25/month membership you can visit any Blink location, get 15% of Modell's sports, and get other discounts and credits to local NYC offerings. The only downfall to this gym is that it is new...so the equipment options are still being adjusted for each location. However, this price cannot be beaten for the locations and amenities. 4. LA Fitness (LAF) - LAF serves as the west and southwest social gym club. Also, Bally Total Fitness sold 171 locations off to LAF. There are several locations on the east coast as well, but being a Dallas, TX native I really have only seen folks in the southwest and west coast go to this gym. The price is good as well...for one location its only $20 and for various locations its $30, minus the contract. One key thing at LAF that I've noticed is they have really great group classes. Not the normal, "show up with strangers" type classes but their group training has a friendly homely feel. This is a great theme considering some individuals are not extroverted when comes to going to the gym. 5. Crunch - only in NY, FL and CA states, Crunch has made its mark. This may have been the first "models only" gym. However, with the rise of other gyms its lost that edge a bit. The monthly prices range from $75 to $115 a month so its a bit on the higher side than the previous mention gyms. But again, it's had an appeal of attracting visibly nice looking members :) and the facilities are good. I know the price may make some reluctant but guess what, you can trial Crunch so I'd say test it out and see if it's work your buck. 6. 24 Hour Fitness - so, yea it's actually 24 hours. I don't need to speak more than that lol. This luxury is the best in the game. You can literally go workout whenever you want. With over 400 locations, 24 Hour Fitness is EVERYWHERE. I know it may seem like I'm hyping this gym up and I'll admit it was the first gym I ever held a membership at. In fact, I still keep a basic membership because I don't want to lose it lol. Memberships to all locations run about $85/month and you can have a gym at your disposal everywhere you travel in the state's. Great facilities and mid range price makes this gym a very popular choice. 7. Equinox - alrighty so Equinox is definitely the premier and social aware gym. Literally, if you're famous, a model, or vain about your looks, this is the gym. It is the true definition of a "club". But it is worth all the amenities you receive - pool, sauna, steam, tanning, merchandise, top of the line equipment, pilates you name it. So all these cool things I've mentioned do come with a price and a substantial one! Memberships range from $230/month to nearly $300/month. Again, it's not just a gym but sort of a club vibe. Think of the Soho House hotel, only in gym form. If you're willing to pay this amount yearly, I say go with this gym as it will be worth it. But if you are price conscious one of the previous referenced gyms may be your best bet.
